Splitbeam’s Vision for the Future

As Splitbeam continues to rebuild, let me take this opportunity to reiterate our purpose and vision.

Starting Splitbeam in 2010 was motivated by the need for a Rental company specialising in servicing the theatre industry. This is not only for big franchise musicals but also the theatre and dance that forms the backbone of South African arts. I am a strong supporter of the development of theatre in our school system, as this is the catalyst for the next generation of technicians, artists, producers and audiences.

Splitbeam is proud to have supplied total production and technical services to include lighting, audio, audiovisual and rigging for some significant local touring productions like War Horse, Jersey Boys, Priscilla: Queen of the Desert, Chicago, and West Side Story and have also supplied technical solutions and equipment for Asian tours. We continue to provide theatre rental services to multiple schools and festivals nationwide.

My passion for theatre and belief that South Africa has world-class performers and technicians has fed the hope that Splitbeam would fly the flag as a South African theatre rental company while establishing a solid presence in the international market.

Although COVID-19 brought our industry to a standstill with its challenges, we focused our positive energy on our involvement with the STAND foundation, TADA and in the planning of the LIGHT-IT-IN-RED campaign for the South African entertainment and events industry. Fortunately, Splitbeam survived with the continued support of our fellow theatre-makers and fantastic staff, who never stopped trusting me and my crazy ideas.

They say the best view comes after the most arduous climb, and slowly we are beginning to see the ‘view’. I remain committed to supporting and developing the arts and theatre in South Africa, whether it’s a one-man drama, school production, ballet or touring musical. With our understanding of theatre, The Splitbeam team can help bring any production to life by supplying the equipment required by designers that they may create without any limitations and prohibitive costs.

Splitbeam is run by people “from the theatre for the theatre.”
